Fire Controlmen (FC) A School Safety Practice Test

Going aloft is governed by the ship’s safety and deck authorization procedures. The Officer on Deck is the person responsible for deck safety and for issuing the required written permission to go aloft. They assess conditions, security, and readiness, and then authorize the ascent with a formal permit. The Captain has ultimate authority, but routine aloft permissions come through the OOD, not directly from the Captain. The Safety Officer handles safety policies, and the Engineering Officer oversees machinery spaces, so they aren’t the first point of written authorization for going aloft.
